SEVENTY 7: the intention

By Bruno Belmont

Sailing Yachts Projects Director / Groupe Bénéteau

When we worked on the 620 some years ago, we thought that the experience gained with the Lagoon 67 would provide us with solid knowledge and efficient design methods.
We were wrong: a generation had gone by, and the world had changed. Every step in the development of the new boat was like writing a new page!
So when time came less than 10 years later to think about a larger yacht, we knew that it could not be just a bigger 620.

We also had in mind that there would be strong expectations from many current 620 owners!

Within the Design team, the words were simple, but they all carried a strong content: sleek, thought-out, large yacht soul, Lagoon family signs, Private owner special treat, large but no wasted space.

Marc Van Peteghem and Patrick Le Quément at VPLP joined forces with the Nauta design team to ensure a continuous style inside and outside, while the Lagoon design office balanced marketing requirements and industrial needs to provide what a demanding owner might expect.

A Lagoon without innovation would not be a Lagoon, and the largest in the range had to go one step beyond!

This website is dedicated to making you discover these innovations and to showing you the first SEVENTY 7 construction stages until she hits the water…and sails to Cannes for the 2016 Yachting Festival!
