Born and raised in Annapolis, Maryland, it was hard not to get involved in the Marine Industry.
In 1982, I started working for Steven Yacht Charters, with charter bases in Tortola, St. Marten and St. Lucia. I commissioned new Stevens 47 and 56 monohull sailboats, shipped over by freighter to Baltimore, Maryland, most of which were then sold for Charter Management in the West Indies and British Virgin Islands.
At Steven Yacht Charters I was also a crew member for boat deliveries to charter bases. I was hired to move the St. Marten fleet to St Lucia, sailing 16 boats over the course of 5 months.
After the eventual closing of the company’s St. Marten Charter Base, I was able to spend 3 years sailing between St Thomas and Grenada. This was my true introduction to the cruisers’ way of life. I was hooked.
When I returned to Annapolis in 1985, I knew that one day I wanted to be a long-range cruiser. I started working in Annapolis commissioning new boats for A&B Yachtsmen. We were hired by a number of brokerage houses to commission their boats. Tayana, Baba and Passport were among the monohulls we represented.
During this time, I received my 100-ton Captain’s License and became a sailing instructor and charter captain.
By 1988, I was selling sailing monohulls – Etaps, Dufour, Watkins and Seaward models. This was the stepping stone for my introduction to catamarans.
I started working for Bay Yacht Agency in 1991, representing Jeanneau and Tayana monohulls and brokerage vessels.
Soon after, we began selling Lagoon catamarans. Once I sailed my first cruising catamaran -- a Lagoon 37 during sea trials at an Annapolis boat show -- I could see the future. I started work as a broker selling PDQs, Catana and brokerage catamarans and gained an extensive catamaran knowledge base.
In 1997, I opened Eastport Yacht Repair and Service, which offered full marine services. With an urge to return to sales, in 2001 I became a broker, again selling, delivering and servicing catamarans.
In 2005, the Catamaran Company gained ownership of the Annapolis Catamaran Center. Now as a sales broker with Annapolis Catamaran Center/Catamaran Group, once again I am selling Lagoon catamarans, the world’s largest cat manufacturer. Being part of the Catamaran Group is very exciting for me. With years of sailing and customer service experience, I’m here to help future cruisers find their dream Catamaran. |
